Art: Aleks Degtyarev in The Window at 125

The Window at 125 is pleased to present an installation by Aleks Degtyarev. Over 2 weeks Degtyarev will build the mystical city of Alladnam on view for passersby to see the evolution of its creation. Alladnam, the city within a city has no straight lines, and it is fitting that this amass of curvature is built within within the many right angles of Midtown NY.

Using natural clay and thus, working with all the elements: earth, water, air, fire, Degtyarev celebrates the act of building.

Degtyarev will be working in The Window at 125 from February 7-22nd . As a passerby, you can see the piece develop in the window on a daily basis. Please do take photos and post them online using #windowat125 and #rshotel

Aleks Degtyarev was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and came to New York with his family at age 8. Graduating from SUNY Stony Brook University, Aleks works across a multitude of creative disciplines. He created a series of experimental short films following the nihilistic characters Pipe and Marlo (2004-2008), which have appeared in several film festivals around the world including Brooklyn International Film Festival. From 2008-2010 he produced and stared in FreakCast, live video shows performed in front of an audience. In 2013 Aleks wrote, directed, and co-starred in Jewish [En]Lightning, a play for the Cojeco Blueprint Fellowship. It will also be released as a book in 2014.

The Window at 125 is a re purposed street level window space dedicated to showing emerging, unrepresented artists’ work to an unsuspecting midtown audience.
