The Introducing Series’ recurrent objective is to provide a platform for emerging, unrepresented artists to present their work. The artists we show are specifically chosen to participate in The Series by a Roger Smith selected individual who is a champion of them and their career.
Each season we redefine the parameters of the artists presentation in The Window at 125. Season 3 see’s every introduced artist use The Window at 125 as a studio space to create one piece of work from start to finish over a period of 2 weeks. The intention is to expose the artists’ working process to midtown’s habitual passersby and to our online audience.

CHERYL is a four-member, semi-anonymous artist collective and band of hand models based in Brooklyn, New York, known for its video art, museum installations, interactive performances and dance parties. CHERYL’s work explores the concepts of mortality, mania, the feline-human connection, the limits of shoulders, the flammability of dollar-store hair extensions, and the staining power of fake blood. CHERYL has been bringing its particular brand of FRESHMAGICK™ to New York City since 2008, and has since acquired a dedicated cult following and media attention for large-scale happenings involving costumes made from Cheetos®, exuberant dance moves, participatory self-destruction, and tin foil. Since its inception, CHERYL has produced an ongoing series of video art to introduce upcoming thematically connected events.
Lori Zimmer is a New York based, self-described “art person”- writing, curating, consulting and dabbling in other art world projects to keep things interesting. She has written for ArtSlant, ArtFetch, Ecouterre, Flavorpill, Inhabitat, Patrick McMullan Magazine and White Hot Mag, and is the founder of Art Nerd New York.
RART are a semi fictitious collective of emerging & established artists, flutists & writers that exist through collaborative Live Art Performances, Audio Art Shows and 2&3 Dimensional Drawing. This is amid numerous series’ of exhibitions, happenings, soirees, open forums & experiential Assemblies. Simultaneously feeding and battling with said amorphous ill defined creature, are Fine Artists and Directors Ita Maude Wooller and Leanne Elliott. They have lived symbiotically as RART since 2008.
Based in London, RART have constructing an International identity through the creation of a near completely fictitious Art collective. Through 4 and a half years of curatorial projects, performance, Art and drawing events, creative consultation and programs of group exhibitions they have amassed a large body of massively diverse works.
Jim Kempner is the founder of Jim Kempner Fine Art, specializing in contemporary art in all media, with a special emphasis on contemporary master prints.
DANIELLE ABRAMS writes performances and embodies characters that are based upon members of her multiracial and cross-cultural family. Dew Drop Lady is a personification of her 2nd generation Jewish grandmother from Brooklyn. Janie Bell is a portrait of her late black grandmother from Virginia. Uncle Bob is a character that is based upon her Jewish grandfather who was a tummler at a Catskills’ “Borscht Belt” resort. As Uncle Bob, Abrams totes pockets of coins, candy, and TUMS. S/he tells jokes, leads Conga Lines through public spaces, and hosts variety shows that feature “eclectic groups of extraordinary everybodys.” In March 2008, Abrams staged the The Uncle Bob Variety Show at The Jewish Museum in NYC, a reinterpretation of David Susskind’s episode: How to be a Jewish Son.
Abrams’ performances materialize from the multi-layered narratives that surround European Jews and African-Americans in popular culture. In Routine (2007), Abrams as a Borscht Belt comedian delivers a barrage of stand-up jokes predictably hinged upon self-deprecation and misogyny. Alternately, she bathes in a 25-gallon tub of borscht. The beet-red mask that accrues on her face is a mark of shame: a consequence of the blackface minstrel legacy of Jewish entertainment. Abrams eschews the minstrel’s mask for an emblem of Jewish, and black, hybridity.
Salette Gressett is the Arts Manager for the British Council in the US, since May 2012. She has transatlantic experience in contemporary performance, Live Art, interdisciplinary and socially-engaged practices in the US, UK and EU.
ANDREA COTE is a multi-disciplinary artist living in New York. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally at venues including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Islip Art Museum, Delaware Art Museum, Rotunda Gallery, Abrons Arts Center, The Print Center, The Moore Gallery, and PanAmerican Art Projects. Her performances have been presented at The Neuberger Museum, The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, The Peekskill Project, Chashama, Scope Art Fairs, The Dumbo Arts Festival, and Photo Buenos Aires. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Miami Herald, The New Times, Newsday, Artinfo.com and Wynwood Art Magazine. She is the recipient of grants from the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, as well as two SOS grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts. In Spring of 2012 she had a 13-year survey of her work at Dowling College, “Body of Evidence.”
Andrea Cote is a multimedia artist whose work evokes the body’s presence through it’s trace, gesture, and movement through space. Her desire is to reconcile interior and external experiences of the body, to plumb the psyche, and capture the fleeting nature of emotion, sensation and memory. Larger images are created from small fragments of the body: multiplied, pieced back together, and transformed.
Galina Kurlat is the founder of Main Street Projects; an alternative site specific exhibition venue in Houston, Texas.
Amsterdam-based artist WITTE VAN HULZEN (1984) received his BA in Fine Arts at The ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands. He has been collaborating with his cousin Sander Breure (1985) on video work, performances and photography since 2006. The cousins grew up together in The Netherlands, but have since traveled the world creating works in Uganda, Turkey, Norway, and the United States. In 2009 their video installation You’ll Never Walk Alone was awarded a TENT Academy Award. Their work has been shown for the past two years at the International Filmfestival Rotterdam and has been exhibited around the world in institutions such as: Depo Istanbul, Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, ARCO Madrid, and gallery tegenboschvanvreden in Amsterdam. Breure and van Hulzen have received continued support from the Mondriaan Foundation and in 2012 were awarded a residency with the New York Foundation of the Arts (NYFA). They have recently been commissioned to created a performance by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam for their Spring 2014 season. This is van Hulzen’s first solo drawing exhibition in New York.
Joey Lico is an art and philanthropy consultant working in New York City and Berlin. She currently works with the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).
SIMON DAWE is an artist based in West Dorset and West London England. Born in Farsund Norway, his formative years were spent between a rural Dorset cottage, and periods of austerity on small Norwegian islands. Having studied Fine Art in the poet Shelly’s former Bournemouth residence, Simon attempted to suppress his artistic romantic inclinations by attending Kingston Polytechnic, winning travel scholarships to paint in Norway and Spain.
After graduating, Simon fully succumbed to the romantic with several years spent restoring grottoes, work that led to a series of mural commissions, animation shorts for Channel 4 (Chicken, 2006) and a ziggurat building project for Antony Caro (2006). Throughout this time it was sculpture and a love of stone which increasingly dominated Simon’s practice.
Equipped with traditional building skills, oil paint, pencils and spreadsheet, Simon then teamed with sculptor Emily Young. Alongside Emily, grand projects were realized, from La Defence, Paris, to St Pauls Cathedral London. Over time carving and polishing expanded into designing and project managing, transport and installation, and collaborations with many notable artists.
In 2005, Simon and Danny Wootton formed Wootton and Dawe, Their raison d’être, to identify and develop creative collaborations, to enable artists and designers, to mentor, curate and realize their ideas.Simon Dawe, has continually maintained his studio practice, exhibiting in solo and group shows, as well as selling his diverse work to private collectors.
Toby Clarke is Director of VIGO, a contemporary gallery located in Dering Street, in Mayfair, London. Vigo advise several residencies including the Eileen Shona Residency in Scotland, the Horiuchi Residency in Japan, and AMOYA in Prague. Recent museum projects include curating London Twelve, which brought together 32 London based artists at the City of Prague Gallery in the Czech Republic and the charity fundraiser We are Not Witches at the Saatchi Gallery.
