The Roger Smith Hotel is thrilled to present the Lower East Side Printshop: Recent Works, in Lily’s Bar and Exhibition Space. The show will include the print works of three artists; Jennie C. Jones, Ghada Amer and Shinique Smith. All pieces were created at the Lower East Side Printshop.
In Lily’s Bar and exhibition space we show works by both individual artists and group shows, on a 10 week rotation. We look to introduce our visitors/budding art collectors to a selection of talented emerging artists.
Artist Ghada Amer, is a Cairo born, Harlem based painter known for her abstract embroidered paintings dealing with questions of sexuality. Amer is represented by Cheim & Read Gallery, New York.
Jennie C. Jones is a Brooklyn-based painter/sculptor, this years winner of the prestigious Joyce Alexander Wein Prize awarded by Studio Museum in Harlem, awarded to African-American Artists. Her work sits at the intersection between her exploration of modern music and a minimalist approach to her practice. She is represented by Sikkema Jenkins & Co.
Baltimore raised Shinique Smith’s work incorporates inspiration from street graffiti to Japanese Calligraphy, found objects and memorabilia of deceased artists. In March 2013 Smith had a solo exhibition at the James Cohan Gallery in Chelsea.

Lower East Side Printshop, founded in 1968, is a premier not-for-profit printmaking studio in New York City that helps contemporary artists create new artwork and advance their careers. In spring 2005, the Printshop moved from its location in the East Village to a facility five times its size in Midtown Manhattan. In 2006, the Printshop was bestowed with Primary Organization status by the NY State Council on the Arts. This title is only awarded to organizations whose quality of services and stature, offer an essential cultural contribution to the state. www.printshop.org
