Penthouse Bar

The Roger Smith Hotel is pleased to announce the opening of its new bar, The Penthouse, which will proudly share the building’s top floor with the ever popular Henry’s Rooftop Bar. The Penthouse features a wrap-around terrace and patio overlooking the iconic Chrysler building. The outdoor patio will also provide a spectacular view of the bright red Art Deco Pepsi-Cola sign that’s become a N.Y. landmark in its own right. But the undisputed highlight of this historic space is its beautiful vaulted ceiling (with its distinctive geometric patterns of decorative raised molding). Rumor has it that this ceiling was Buckminster Fuller’s inspiration for the Geodesic Dome. According to Fuller’s daughter, it was while visiting the Roger Smith’s penthouse that the legendary architect and visionary thinker first conceived of the structure that would become world famous following its display at the New York World’s Fair in 1964. The sculptor and stage designer Isamu Noguchi was another famous admirer of this room. Other unique features of the Penthouse include its classically arched doorway and its burnt-orange wooden fireplace. With the spectacular Manhattan skyline as its backdrop, the Penthouse is guaranteed to provide a memorable setting for the perfect New York evening.
