Well, it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. With the merry season in full bloom there’s no shortage of enchanting things to do in our snow-dusted city. Here we list our top 5 recommendations for what to do with the kids during the holidays in NYC.
Walking through Central Park during the wintertime is akin to stepping foot into Narnia (though our lions at the zoo unfortunately can’t speak). Everyone’s favorite frosted wonderland is home to a number of activities the kids will undoubtedly love. With two ice skating rinks, a slew of hills to sled on, special performances at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater, and so much gorgeous scenery to take in, you’ll have trouble leaving.

If your kids are young enough to still believe in the spirit of the holidays (we won’t judge if you do as well!) head over to Macy’s Santaland and get your annual family snap with the big jolly red man himself. Santa’s a popular guy so keep in mind that reservations are essential – but at least it’ll give you a good excuse to make the most of those Macy’s holiday sales while you wait.

NYC Ballet’s rendition of The Nutcracker is a magical tale with instantly recognizable melodies, gorgeous costuming, dizzying choreography and charming performances. A trip to a world of toy soldiers, sugarplum fairies and mischievous mice will make for the perfect night in.

Popping up all throughout the city are a variety of holiday markets for your seasonal pleasure! Take the kids on a shopping adventure and treat them to home-made trinkets, cosy cups of hot chocolate, and plenty of stocking stuffers for every almost-forgotten member of the family.

Wrapped up in 50,000 LED lights and planted firmly in front of the Rockefeller Center, the ginormous Christmas Tree is a holiday favorite among NY families. Grab a hot mug of cider or hot chocolate and take your little ones to bask in the glow of the tree’s shining magic. Remember to snap a pic for the relatives back home!
