City Abstractions Exhibit at Roger Smith

The Roger Smith Hotel and Artemisa Gallery are pleased to present City Abstractions, a selection of works that combine the visual vocabulary of Paris and New York through photography, sculpture, and abstract expressionism. The exhibition will run from September 7 – December 4 in the Lobby of The Roger Smith Hotel at 501 Lexington Avenue.

Celeste Leeuwenburg’s photographs incorporate soft sculpture within the landscape to depict Parisian life. The pink sculpture

moves freely through the streets and boulevards of Paris, creating shapes as it undulates and transforms urban space through ephemeral site specificity. Celeste Leeuwenburg was born in Paris and raised in Buenos Aires. Educated in the ateliers of Argentinean artists, filmmakers, and photographers, she also studied photography, painting, fashion and art history. Celeste’s work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Uruguay and Madrid. She currently lives and works in France.

Vicky Barranguet’s abstract paintings are rhythmic with incredible energy, vibrant color, and fluid movement. With an open minded approach to her practice, Barranguet combines painting and music to create spontaneous and daring work. Vicky Barranguet was born in Uruguay and currently lives and works in New York. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her work is in many private collections in Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America.

Luciana Levinton uses architecture as the foundation of her works. The Grand Palais in Paris and the historic Whitney Museum in New York inspired a series in which she sketched facades, delineated floor plans, and decontextualized architectural elements to recreate precise figurations of architecture and bring the viewer into a journey of the unknown. Levinton lives and works in Buenos Aires.

Artemisa Gallery is a unique platform for Contemporary Latin American Art with offices in New York and Buenos Aires.
