Lily’s Bar at Roger Smith Hotel
April 24-August 30, 2018
The Roger Smith Hotel is thrilled to present a site-specific mural inspired by our neighborhood, Midtown East, by the artist Jason Naylor.
Jason is an award-winning artist, designer, and creative director based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Salt Lake City, he discovered NY as a teen, and was magnetically drawn to the color, the art, and the culture. Jason’s work ranges from video, to illustration, to typography and murals. It has been seen supporting brands like MAC Cosmetics, Xbox and Fenty Puma, and has been seen in various publications, on clothes, shoes, and even bodies… and of course on walls around the city. He loves bright colors, rich blacks, and his work regularly contains messages of positivity as he believes that kindness is the key to success.
Color, lights, sounds. Commotion, energy, excitement. Blurs, splashes, jolts. NYC captures so much of us without us even knowing, and we seldom consider the amount of stimuli we experience on a daily basis. Though we are constantly submerged in it, we forget what it actually feels like. Yes, we see all the colors and hear all the sounds, but how do they make us feel? What does it feel like to walk into Grand Central Station for the first time? What does it feel like to exit the subway onto a bustling park avenue? Is it love? Is it nostalgia? Let us consider the emotions we experience in the glorious city we adore most, and through words and color we will illustrate the on-going romance we have with this sentimental city
