Henry's Rooftop Bar

Sip and socialize at Midtown East's Best Kept Secret

Our signature hangout on the 16th floor, Henry's Rooftop Bar, is a vibrant, speakeasy setting with inspiring, skyline views of 47th Street. Whether you fancy fresh air and a creative cocktail, or a happy hour spot to unwind with a glass of wine or cold beer, this is the place to connect with like-minded souls.

The magnificent handcrafted oak bar is a centerpiece very much in line with the rustic vibe of the Roger Smith Hotel. The expansive exposed brick walls are home to two large-scale, steel silhouette sculptures – The Tiger and The Elk by New York-based artist, Wendy Klemperer.

The Penthouse

Also on the 16th floor is The Penthouse, an extension of Henry's Rooftop Bar (and where we host live band sessions) which features a wraparound terrace overlooking the iconic Chrysler Building and the art deco Pepsi-Cola sign that's become a NY landmark in its own right.

Rumor has it that this space's distinctive geometric-patterned vaulted ceilings were Buckminster Fuller’s inspiration for the Geodesic Dome. According to Fuller’s daughter, it was while visiting the Roger Smith’s penthouse that the legendary architect and visionary thinker first conceived of the structure that would become world famous following its display at the New York World’s Fair in 1964.

The sculptor and stage designer Isamu Noguchi was another famous admirer of this room. Other unique features of the Penthouse include its classically arched doorway and its burnt-orange wooden fireplace. With the spectacular Manhattan skyline as its backdrop, the Penthouse is guaranteed to provide a memorable setting for the perfect New York evening.

Nowadays, The Penthouse hosts regular live performances from local NY musicians as well as those from artists-in-residence at the Hotel. Follow our Instagram (@rshotel) to see what shows are coming up.
